Learn about The Wharf #4

Today, i am going to be talking about the Wharf. The wharf, is the place, where all of the lobster boats, are stored out in the water. There is a docking area for lobster boats, so that the boats can get more bait, or rockfish or anything else that they need for that day. That is where the mini crane is to transport the trays of herring from the dock, to the lobster-boats, because they are really heavy.

At the Wharf, there is also a shed that stores trays of herring or rockfish that are not being used, so that they can be taken out and transported onto a lobster-boat at any time. There are stairs on the edge of the dock, that go down to 2 floating, wooden platforms. These 2 platforms hold the rowboats that people use in the morning to get from the Wharf, out to their lobster-boats that are tied up on anchors, out on the water.

The wharf, also has a house with an office, a kitchen, a living room, and a bedroom on the 2nd floor. The people who work at the wharf the whole day, helping load bait onto boats, and other things, use this house to work, like in the office, or just hang-out, when there are no boats on the dock. There is a monitor inside of the house, that displays a live video feed of the docking area of the wharf, so if anyone is inside of the house hanging-out, they know when a boat is at the docking area so that they can go help them unload the lobsters from their boat.

Each time a lobster boat comes into the Wharf from a day hauling traps, they first go and park at the 2 wooden floating platforms, so that they can unload their lobsters. There is always someone there to give the lobster-man the crates to put the lobsters in, and to weigh each tray on a scale. Each tray of lobsters, wants to be about 90 LBS, so if it is a little above or below 90 LBS, the person helping will either take a little bit of lobsters out of the tray, or add a little bit of lobsters to the tray, so that it equals 90 LBS. Then, the tray of lobsters go into the water, attached to roaps, in long lines, so that they remain fresh.

After the lobster-boats finish unloading their lobsters into the crates, they either go to the docking area to get more bait if they need any more, or they go and park their boats out on the water, and then row back to the floating wooden platforms, in their rowboats. Today, me and Uncle Art, had to get more herring, and rockfish. We put them into our bait box, and then we were done!

The last thing that the wharf has, is its own personal gas pump. This is for putting gas into any lobster-boat that needs any more gas. All of the gallons of gas put into each lobster boat, all the bait given to each lobster-man, and all of the pounds of lobsters that each lobster-man brings in, is all recorded, so that the wharf can charge the lobster-men later, for any bait or gas that they needed! It is a really good system!

I hope you enjoyed this "Learner" page, comment if you guys want to know anything else that i can maybe make a "Learner" page on!
