Learn about Lobsters #1

The lobsters scientific name, is the nephropidae. Lobsters are in the spider family, because they have 8 legs. They have 2 main claws, one is used for grabbing things, and is longer and skinnier than the other claw. The other claw, is a crusher claw, and it is made for crushing, and is more fat and big and has more muscle, than the grabbing claw. On the inside of a lobster claw, there are white bumps, that the lobsters use to feel the inside of their claws, so if they feel something on the inside of their claws, they will clamp down hard trying to get whatever was there. The image below, you can kind of see the white bumpy part on the inside of the lobsters claws.

On the left part of the lobster, there is the crusher claw, and the right side, has the grabbing claw. 

Lobsters go through a process called shedding. It starts when the part of the shell, starts to peel off from the tail. Then the head and eyes go out of the shell, then the claws and the rest of the body are pulled out of the shell. The lobster gets out of its shell when he flicks his tail. His shell is now lying next to him, and he is unable to support his own weight for about a half an hour. He sucks in water so that he can swell up in order to make a new shell. 

Female lobsters, are really mean for some reason, and are very strong, and like to attack other lobsters and even rip their claw off. Today, we hauled a trap up and a female lobster had just clamped another lobsters arm off. The female lobsters hold their eggs underneath their stomach. If we haul a female lobster that has any eggs, we have to throw it back. Its against the law to keep a female lobster with eggs.
